Spring Crappie Fishing Is Producing Giants and People Are Sleeping On It

I don’t throw around the word “giant” loosely when it comes to crappie fishing. But when a 4.10-pound slab comes out of Grenada Lake in Mississippi, that word doesn’t even feel big enough.
A couple from Illinois hired out a guide, got on the water during the pre-spawn push, and pulled out what most crappie fishermen will never see in a lifetime. That fish was nearly 19 inches long and thick as a brick. Absolutely unreal.
Here’s the thing though. This isn’t luck. Grenada is loaded right now. Fish are staging, moving shallow, and the big ones are mixed right in with them. Spring crappie fishing during the spawn is one of the most overlooked opportunities in freshwater fishing, and catches like this prove exactly why I harp on it every single year.
If you’ve been on the fence about chasing crappie this spring, let this be your sign.
Keep those lines tight.
